The church was built over the remains of the church of
Santa Reparata,
is the third largest church in the world after St. Peter's in Rome and St. Paul's in London, and was dedicated in 1412 in Santa Maria del Fiore, perhaps
alluding to the Florentine lily symbol of Florence. The stained glass windows, Florentine art of the early Renaissance,
were created by Donatello, Ghiberti, Paolo Uccello and Andrea Del Castagno;
the interior retains the Politic of
Santa Reparata (Giotto
and his pupils), the Equestrian Monument
to Sir John Hawkwood (Paolo
Uccello), and the marvelous dome with the Last Judgment (Giorgio Vasari and Federico Zuccari). The stupendous Cupola of Brunelleschi and Giotto's bell tower are open to visitors to
admire the beautiful panorama of Florence;
in front of the cathedral is the
Baptistery with the Gates of Paradise. On Easter Sunday you repeat the classic explosion of the cart and the flight of the dove tradition
of Florence.

It’s the oldest church in Florence at the behest of the Medici family who frequented as a parish of
family, in 1419 made it broaden by Brunelleschi making it
a masterpiece as one sees now.
In the interior,
among other things, we can see the two bronze pulpits of works by Donatello, depicting scenes from the life of Christ
and the Resurrection and the Martyrdom
of St. Lawrence (1569). The Medici Chapels form part of the church complex and it was Cardinal Giulio de Medici, the future Pope Clement VII, to want to
remember the great Medici family. The chapels are divided into three distinct parts: the crypt, the
chapel and the sacristy of the
principles, the statues above the sarcophagi are wonderful as
the Allegories of Time, the Sunset and Sunrise, Night and Day and the
group with the Virgin Mary with
Jesus in her lap.
Church of the Holy Spirit
The church is considered to be one of the main monuments of Florence, was designed by Brunelleschi and on the inside there
