Delicata Civerra e Fonzo Mastrangelo
La
tragedia di Delicata Civerra e Fonzo Mastrangelo ebbe luogo a Campobasso al
culmine delle lotte tra due Confraternite: Crociati e Trinitarie quando i
matrimoni fra i giovani appartenenti alle diverse famiglie erano proibiti. Nel
1587 una bellissima fanciulla di nome Delicata Civerra, di famiglia Crociata,
s’innamora, ricambiata, di un giovane Trinitario Fonzo Mastrangelo, ma i due
giovani amanti si guardavano bene dal far conoscere il loro amore alle
rispettive famiglie e, furtivamente, cercavano di vedersi. Purtroppo vennero
scoperti dal padre della ragazza mentre Alfonso raccoglieva un piccolo mazzo di
fiori che Delicata gli aveva lanciato in segno di affetto. Delicata fu
rinchiusa, dal padre, in un umido sotterraneo e si ammala, ma sempre decisa a
difendere il suo amore. La sera del 12 marzo 1587, la giovane sta per morire ed
ecco che arriva Fonzo Mastrangelo e le infila un anello al dito, giurandole
eterna fedeltà e dopo morta disse: “Delicata, Delicata! domani il convento avrà
un cappuccino in più!”. Infatti dopo i funerali di Delicata Civerra si
allontanò subito dalla città e si rifugiò nel Convento dell’Ara Coeli di Roma,
dove nel 1589 morì.

Civerra suffered walked away from the city and took refuge in the Convent of Ara Coeli in Rome, where he died in 1589.
