Monumenti a Roma...il Pantheon

Dedicato al culto di tutti gli dei il Pantheon fu fatto erigere da Agrippa nel 27 a.C., nel 118 d.C. fu ricostruito dall’imperatore Adriano sui resti del precedente tempio distrutto durante un incendio. Fu consacrato come chiesa cristiana nel 609 con il nome di Santa Maria ad Martyres. Dal 1870 accoglie le spoglie di Vittorio Emanuele II, Umberto I e Margherita di Savoia le cui tombe sono curate e mantenute dalla associazione volontaria della Guardia d’onore alle reali tombe del Pantheon. Vi è anche sepolto il sommo artista Raffaello Sanzio. L’interno si presenta come un unico e maestoso ambiente, uno spettacolare raggio di luce filtra obliquo attraverso l’apertura circolare larga 9 m sulla sommità della cupola, illuminando l’intero edificio. Al Pantheon  vengono tuttora celebrate le messe.

Dedicated to the worship of all gods the Pantheon was built by Agrippa in 27 BC, in 118 A.D. was built by Emperor Hadrian on the remains of the earlier temple destroyed during a fire. He was consecrated as a Christian church in 609 under the name of Santa Maria ad Martyrs. Since 1870 it houses the remains of Victor Emmanuel II, Umberto I and Margherita of Savoy whose graves are maintained and kept by the voluntary association of the Guard of Honour to the real graves of the Pantheon. Is also buried in the High artist Raphael. The interior presents itself as a unique and majestic setting, a spectacular oblique ray of light passes through the circular opening 9 m wide at the top of the dome, illuminating the entire building. The Pantheon are still celebrating the harvest.
